It’s so hard to believe that 2018 is already coming to a close. (It feels like we just finished summer, and were enjoying the start of cooler weather!) I love taking some time to look back at the year and put things into perspective. Often when you are in the middle of things and working from day to day its easy to feel as though you are not getting anywhere. This year is already coming to an end, and so many of my goals that I was hoping to check off are still so far from completion or even starting. However, when I think back to a year ago, I love seeing the growth in our little business and some of the milestones we’ve hit.
One of my favourite memories from this past year was being a participant in the spring One Room Challenge. We were able to finish off our basement as a play space for the kids. Up until then they had spent most of their time playing in our family room, which meant it usually had toys everywhere and the sofa set up as a tent. I loved designing a space just for them and having a spot for all their toys and books that was easy for them to access. It was also really great to get their input on what they would like in their new playroom. It’s fun to see how their little minds think and hear the ideas they come up with!

Over the summer we also refurnished our home office, which has made it a space I really love working in. Steve and I both have dreams of an office outside of our home, but for now we both love this setup and how it works with our growing family. Also, for all of you guys wondering, the tree in the corner is a Kumquat tree, and is perfect if you sometimes forget to water your plants. When we left for 3 weeks in October I forgot to water it before we left, and it still looked great when we got home!

Over the summer and into the fall we checked the kids bath, our garden shed and outdoor fire pit off for our house to do list! We are really looking forward to spending summer nights around a campfire in 2019!

Over the past year, we’ve also been working on the Mountain Park new build. It’s been a slow process, but every single detail has been thought through so I’m sure it will be worth the wait. Starting from scratch gives you so much flexibility, and I’m excited to share more of the design details with you guys!

In November we completed the Spruce remodel. The space has a classic and coastal feel, and I’m excited to share the full reveal with you guys in January!

Earlier this year we collaborated with Natalie Gerber to design some original textiles for our new pillow line. Each print was carefully thought through, and hand printed on linen fabric for a really soft and authentic look. We have our photoshoot scheduled and will have the new collection available early next year.

We were able to sneak this family photo in just before Christmas!

Not all our goals were achieved in 2018, but looking back at this year I’m happy and thankful for what we were able to do. Its made me more patient knowing that sometimes good things take time, and sometimes things don’t work out the way you had planned or hoped. It’s made me realize that’s OK because there’s often a better way that you don’t see at first glance. I’m excited for what 2019 will have in store for us!
Wishing you all a Happy New year from Steve and I. We are so thankful to have you guys follow along with us, and for our clients who trust us with designing and managing the construction of their homes. It allows us to keep doing what we love!
