My sister and brother in law moved into a cute little home last year, and I was more then happy when they asked me to help redesign the layout of the kitchen and main floor living space! They wanted the space to feel more spacious and brighter, and have a a french country style.
-THE BEFORE-
-THE NEW LAYOUT-
When putting together the layout, I played around with a bunch of different options. Because the space was long and fairly narrow, an island really limited the amount of cupboard space. Adding in a walk in pantry on one end, allowed the kitchen space to almost double without it feeling crowded, and we loved the idea and look of the dining table in the middle of the kitchen! It reminds me of a 100 year old kitchen layout. We added in a window above the sink, and an antique wood pocket door that could be left closed or opened and out of the way. We put the dishwasher in the pantry as well, and so that area can hide most of the mess!
-THE AFTERS-
They found this vintage wood door, and I love how much natural light it lets into the kitchen! I helped with some of the overall ideas, but they really pulled together all the finishes.
I love the texture the tongue and groove ceiling adds!
The walk in pantry is perfect for food prep, and hides all the mess!
I love this gold take on chicken wire!
The kitchen is IKEA, and they chose the grey shaker fronts from Semihandmade.
My sister had her eye on this Lacanche range, and it is such such a pretty focal point on this wall!
