Fleeting. That's the word that comes to mind when thinking about summer. Living in Ontario, the summers are short and sweet. Each year there's only a few warm months where the gardens are growing, the temperature is warm enough for a sun dress, and the weather is hot enough to jump into the lake. Just as you start to get used to it, the leaves begin to change colours and the mornings become crisp. The shortness makes me look for ways to enjoy even the simplest moments. Last summer we finished our vegetable gardens and while making dinners my kids would excitedly go out to pick what I needed that evening. Seeing them run back with the fresh picked herbs was such a joy and something I often thought of throughout winter as I was cooking .
It's those little no fuss moments that I love, and each season brings its own opportunities for them. They are simple but make for such a beautiful memory. Here's a list of a few of my summer favourites:
Cutting fresh stems from my garden
Watching a thunderstorm
Evening walks
A day at the beach
Dinners on the patio
Ice cream for dessert with fresh fruit
Farmers markets
Camp fires
Harvesting from my garden
Homemade lemonade
Spending time at the cottage
Driving down a county road
Summer sunsets
And a few pieces that make the everyday feel more special:
For the garden
For hosting
For the home
