I can’t believe we are already a week into the ORC! (If you missed the post from week 1, you can see it here.) We have been busy over here demoing my sons bedroom and getting it ready for the new trim and hardwood. Yay!!
I absolutely love the look of White Oak flooring with an oil finish and knew it was what I wanted to incorporate. There are so many beautiful pre finished floors to choose from, however to save some cost but not sacrifice the look, we decided to go with a 5″ unfinished White Oak plank and finish it in the Rubio 5% White stain. The stain protects and colours the wood in a single layer, and has a really great matte finish that wears well. The flooring will be going in next week, and I will share the staining process for anyone who might be thinking of tackling this as well!
I really wanted the room to have a masculine feel while still being juvenile and fun for a little boy. I love the look of white walls, however for this space was looking for something really boyish and ended up going with Benjamin Moore’s Secret AF-710. It is the perfect muted grey green, and am so excited with how it turned out!
To add some fun, I decided to incorporate a chalkboard wall, and love that Benjamin Moore offers chalkboard paint in any of their colours. I still wanted to go with a colour that looked black, but wasn’t as harsh, and decided on Gravel Grey 2127-30. It could totally pass as black, but is a bit more muted, and has a really great blue undertone!
